Extended Maintenance Schedule

OneIT maintains over 600 systems and services which need to be regularly patched and upgraded; most of this works is routine with minimum impact. However, sometimes the work is complicated, requires extended time and may include a significant outage.  OneIT partnered with university administration to identify the best windows when this extended maintenance could happen; please see the schedule below. 

We will aim to begin maintenance at 5 p.m. on the first day and end by 5 p.m. on the last day. Detailed information wil be posted below, on the system status page, and in Niner Insider approximately 1 month in advance.

Research Computing Clusters Upgrade and Outage: Several system software upgrades and other changes to cluster environment including SLURM scheduler.

Aruba Wi-Fi Software Upgrade: This upgrade contains multiple bug fixes and software vulnerability fixes.


Monday, December 19th beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Banner Patch: This Banner patch may result in a brief outage to users.


Tuesday, December 20th 5:00 p.m. to Wednesday, December 21st 5:00 a.m.

Meraki Wi-Fi Software Upgrade: This upgrade contains multiple bug fixes and software vulnerability fixes.


Tuesday, December 20th 5:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.

Zoom Update: Users may experience brief interruptions during this time as updates are applied.


Wednesday, December 21st 5:00 p.m. to Thursday, December 22nd 5:00 a.m.

Switch Software Upgrade: Performing upgrades on network hardware. There will be outages in the following buildings.

Partial Buildings access affected:

Building Upgrades: OneIT will be updating network configurations each day in specific buildings. Other than the listed buildings, no other outages are expected.


Friday, Oct 7th

Starting at 10:15 p.m. 

Zoom Client update: Customers may be prompted to update their Zoom Client.

Friday, Oct 7th

9:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. 

Firepower Snort Engine: No outages expected. There will be a momentary traffic loss since the current inspection engine needs to be shut down.

Saturday, Oct 8th

7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. 

Networking equipment upgrade: No anticipated impact.

Monday, Oct 10th 

7 a.m. - 8 a.m. 

Barnhardt Student Activities Center Router Upgrade: The building router will be replaced, there will be no networking in this building during this time. 


Monday, Oct 10th

7 a.m. - Midnight

Smith Building Wireless Access Points: Wireless Access Point Deployment in the Smith Building. New wireless access points will be deployed on Monday Oct 10th from 7 a.m. - Midnight. Building occupants may experience intermittent wireless issues when access points are swapped out.

starting at 7:30 a.m.

VPN upgrade: VPN users will be prompted to update the VPN during login.


Monday, Oct 10th

12 a.m. - 12 a.m.

Rebuild Engineering web servers: individuals may get logged out of web applications and need to log back in.


Tuesday, Oct. 11th

5:30 a.m. - 7 a.m.

Phillips Field: Building switches will be replaced; there will be no networking during this time. 

OneIT will be doing extended maintenance from 5 pm Friday July 1st until 9 am Saturday July 2nd. During this time, building switches, routers and storage will be upgraded. This work should have no impact on our customers. OneIT will also be performing disaster recovery testing on Friday July 1st, 2022 from 11 pm - 2 am. Users will not be able to access the main website as well as most campus web services and systems including my.charlotte.edu, Canvas, Gmail, GCal, Google Drive, the VPN and Zoom. Phone services will not be impacted. .
