Welcome to the Fall 2024 Semester!
To ensure a smooth start to the semester, here are some resources, reminders, and updates:
Artificial Intelligence
- The newly created AI Steering Committee has been working hard over the summer. Recently OneIT published information about AI on our website including our guiding principles, a security checklist and AI software guidance.
- If you are procuring or using AI software for teaching or research, follow standard procurement guidelines and complete the Software and IT-Related Request form.
- Zoom AI Companion is an AI-based digital assistant that delivers real-time capabilities, functionality, and assistance to help users improve their productivity and user experience when using Zoom. It is now available to UNC Charlotte Faculty, Staff, and Students. See the new Standard for Zoom AI Companion and familiarize yourself with best practices and data handling guidelines.
- Have you used Microsoft Copilot with Data Protection yet? Now that this option is available, we recommend that you use it instead of other widely available consumer AI chatbots. Login to copilot.microsoft.com with your @charlotte.edu credentials. See these FAQs.
System Updates
- All students, faculty, and staff members should log into Microsoft 365 using their ninernet@charlotte.edu email address instead of ninernet@uncc.edu address.
- Eduroam wireless network and authentication was updated over the summer. All users must reauthenticate to eduroam and will need to either Trust the certificate or Forget the network and log back in. If you are using your email address to log into Eduroam (usually when you are off campus), use your @charlotte.edu credentials NOT @uncc.edu.
Teaching & Learning Reminders
- Over the summer, Learning Space Technology installed new classroom audio-visual technology in the CHHS building. Please view this video to learn more.
- Faculty: the classroom podium software was updated over the summer. To prevent delays, please login to classroom podiums before the start of the semester and familiarize yourselves with the software updates. Please contact Classroom Support with any questions or concerns.
New Faculty
- Visit the Get Started Faculty Page for our OneIT Orientation, free software, and much more!
- A common question we get is about file and data storage options. See this guide to learn about the options at UNC Charlotte.
- Before you use Zoom in Canvas, set up your Zoom account by following the instructions in this FAQ.
General Reminders
- For FY24, more than 80 projects were completed. To stay informed about upcoming projects please visit the IT Projects webpage.

- Research Faculty: The Research Computing Team has recently deployed upgrades to the Research and Educational computing clusters supporting High Performance Computing (HPC) for research and classroom work across the University. They added over 4,000 compute cores and 20 GPUs for general use and faculty-sponsored work. A high-performance storage upgrade is also being processed. More information about the Research Computing services can be found here.
