Extended Maintenance: Calendar Year 2026

Due to the complexity of some system upgrades, OneIT has partnered with the university to schedule extended maintenance windows for 2026 that may cause significant outages. These windows are strategically chosen to minimize disruption.

Mon. May 11 – Sun. May 17

Network Hardware Upgrade
Monday, 5/11/2026; 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Replacing core networking equipment with updated hardware to improve overall system speed and security. Brief connectivity issues will occur as this upgrade takes place.

*Meraki Wireless Access Point Replacements
Monday, 5/11/2026 to Friday, 5/15/2026 (various dates and times; see below)
This rolling software update for wireless access points. Downtime is minimal and will only affect wireless connectivity while the AP reboots. Please note: Atkins will be closed this week, so additional work will take place on multiple days.

*Switch Hardware Upgrade
Monday, 5/11/2026. to Monday, 5/18/2026 (various dates and times; see below)
Replacing end-of-life (EOL) network switch line cards and supervisor modules with newer hardware. A brief outage will occur when the building switches reboot after new hardware is installed.

Spring 2026 End-of-Term Processing
Monday, 5/11/2026 12:00 p.m. to Friday, 5/15/2026 5:00 p.m.
During this time, registration will be briefly unavailable. Students will not be able to register for classes while these updates are being processed. Access will be restored as soon as the updates are complete.

Canvas Course End Date
Tuesday, 5/12/26; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In order to comply with the upcoming accessibility requirements that are part of Title II, we will need to set course end dates and also set the “restrict student access after course end date” flag on older Canvas courses.  This update may take a number of hours to complete. There will be no impact to users during this process.

WebFOCUS Upgrade
Tuesday, 5/12/2026; 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Upgrade will be applied to both the web and reporting servers. It will be unavailable during the upgrade for developers and users; Portals in Report Central that are running on WebFOCUS 9 will be unavailable.

Fri. Mar. 6 – Sun. March 15 (Spring Break)

Wireless Network Upgrade
Friday, March 6, 2026; 11:00 p.m. – Saturday, March 7, 2026; 3:00 a.m.
All wireless access points will be upgraded in all buildings. Minimal downtime is expected.

Banner Upgrade
Saturday, March 7, 2026; 7:00 am to 12:00 p.m.
Banner will be offline for scheduled maintenance. Related Services that will also experience an outage.

MuleSoft Upgrade
Saturday, March 7, 2026; 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
MuleSoft servers will briefly go offline during the upgrade. During this upgrade, some integrations for NinerCentral, OneIT Service Desk, Advancement, and some forms will be impacted.

ISE Closed Mode Implementation
Sunday, March 8, 2026 – Monday, March 9, 2026
Certain campus buildings will experience a complete network outage lasting 30–45 minutes during the times listed below. Some users may see unexpected connectivity issues afterward. Notes: These locations are pending and subject to change. OneIT staff will be on site the day after these upgrades and on Monday, March 16th.

JAMF Self-Service (Macs) Upgrade to Campus
Monday, March 9, 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. 
This upgrade will make Self Service+ the default for all of campus. See this FAQ for more details.

Facilities Information Systems (FIS) Upgrade
Monday, March 9, 2026; 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Facilities Information Systems (FIS) is upgrading door access software to the newest version. No customer visible changes are expected.

Windows 25H2 and macOS 26 Tahoe Deployment
Monday, March 9, 2026 – Tuesday, March 31, 2026
A mandatory operating system upgrade will be enforced for all campus workstations (excluding labs and podiums).

VPN Client Upgrade
Tuesday, March 10, 2026; 5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Users may experience a brief connection delay during their first VPN login after the upgrade while the client updates.

Migrate WordPress and MyPortal Backend
Tuesday, March 10, 2026; 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Backend storage for on‑premise WordPress and MyPortal will be migrated from Gluster to NetApp ONTAP Select.

Cisco Secure Workload Upgrade
Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
This upgrade will upgrade the software to the latest version. No impact is expected.

Transact System Upgrade
Wednesday, March 11, 2026, 11:00 p.m. to Thursday, March 12, 2026, 4:00 a.m.
This upgrade will stop services after hours, update the server, and update the database. These services will be impacted: eAccounts deposits, printing with student account, and vending with 49er account.

Cornerstone Learning & Development Portal – March 2026 Release
Friday, March 13, 2026; 8:30 p.m. – Saturday, March 14, 2026; 1:30 a.m.

Fri. Jan. 2 – Sun. Jan. 11

Denodo 9 Update
Wednesday, January 7, 2026; 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
As the update is applied, users will be unable to access data from Denodo while the Virtual Dataport server is being patched (approximately 15 minutes).
Users will be unable to log in to the Denodo web services – such as the Data Catalog- while the Solution Manager is being patched, as SSO will not be available.


Meraki Software AP Upgrade
Wednesday, January 7, 2026, 11:00 p.m. to Thursday, January 8, 2026, 3:00 a.m.
Upgrade the Meraki software version to all buildings with Meraki APs. This software update will be a rolling upgrade as APs download/upgrade/reboot with the new software. Downtime is minimal and will only affect wireless connectivity while the AP reboots.
These buildings include: Co-Lab, NCRC, and Center City. Note: Bissell House will not be included in this AP upgrade and will be upgraded at another time.

Research Computing Scheduled Maintenance
Thursday, January 8, 2026; 8:00 a.m. to Friday, January 9, 2026 5:00 p.m.
There will be an upgrade of the file servers and other servers in the Research Computing Cluster. Customers will not be able to use this system during the maintenance period. Communication has gone out to HPC users. 

Tableau Server Update
Thursday, January 8, 2026; 10:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Update to the legacy Tableau Server. The Tableau Server instance at irtableau.charlotte.edu will be unavailable during this upgrade.
