Due to the complexity of some system upgrades, OneIT has partnered with the university to schedule extended maintenance windows for 2025 that may cause significant outages. These windows are strategically chosen to minimize disruption.

Atkins Library Walk-Up Desk Closed
Sunday, December 14, 2025 to Tuesday, January 6, 2026
The Atkins Library walk-up desk will be closed to allow for major electrical upgrades that will modernize the building’s systems.
Update Cisco Building Switches
Monday, December 15, 2025 to Tuesday, January 6, 2026 (See this list for specific date and times)
Upgrade across multiple buildings. There will be a full network outage in these buildings while the new software version is applied and installed. Network outage for 30-45 minutes while new software is installed and building switches reboot.

Blocking out Support MAC OS Devices
December 15, 2025; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
There are Apple devices running Mac OS versions that are currently out of support and end of life. These devices pose a large security threat and will be locked on December 15. Communications will be sent directly to the impacted users.

Banner Student and DegreeWorks Fall 2025 Updates
Monday, December 15, 2025, 12:00 p.m. to Friday, December 19, 2025, 5:00 p.m.
During this period, grading access for instructors will be temporarily closed while essential end-of-term updates are processed in Banner Student and DegreeWorks. Students will also be unable to register for classes during this time. Access will be restored as soon as the updates are complete. The most significant processing will occur between Monday, December 15, and Tuesday, December 16.
ISE Closed Mode Implementation
December 16, 2025 and December 17, 2025 (see specific dates below)
On the evening of the implementation, the following locations will incur a complete network outage for 30 to 45 minutes. Afterward, some users may experience unexpected connectivity issues. Communication will be directly sent out to impacted users of the following locations:
- Memorial Hall – December 17, 2025 at 6 p.m.
- Student Health Center – December 16, 2025 at 9:00 p.m.
- FOPS – December 16, 2025 at 9:00 p.m.

Engineering Data Migration (Phase 3A and 3B)
December 17, 2025
Phase 3A: Departmental data (M: drive) & Research Data will be migrated to the S: drive during a single two-hour outage, starting Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. For compatibility, the old M: drive and shortcuts that use it will be pointed to the S: drive and continue to work through the end of the Spring semester.
Phase 3B: Windows Home (U: drive) will be migrated to OneDrive for Active users with files (those who have changed files in the last 30 days). Users’ Engineering Windows Home directory (U:) will no longer be available after 5:00 p.m. on each user’s designated migration date. Files will be copied overnight to OneDrive. They may use the files on OneDrive as they are copied.
Banner Upgrade

OneIT will perform critical updates to the Identity Management (NinerNET) software. This means: you cannot change passwords or log in to ninernet.charlotte.edu to make account updates, OneIT will not be able to resolve NinerNET account issues, new accounts cannot be activated, Sponsored guest accounts cannot be renewed or extended, and the Get Duo code page will be unavailable.

Network Hardware Upgrade

REPROS Multi-function Printer (MFP) Migration
Multi-function printers are being migrated from Aux Services to OneIT. Printers will be migrated over several weeks. Individual departments have been notified about the dates they will be impacted. MFP outages as scheduled, customers will be unable to print until device management transition is complete. See the project website for more details. Please note the change in service details.

Cone Outdoor Access Point (AP) Replacement

ISE Implementation: Cameron Building
Wired network upgrade will take place. During this outage window there will be multiple 15-minute network outages. After this upgrade, to have access to the network, computers will need to meet the Guidelines for Endpoint Computers.

Data Center Firewall Hardware Upgrade
Upgrade current Data Center hardware . Services located in the Data Center will experience approximately a 1 hour outage from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and short intermittent outage between 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. These services include: Archibus, Banner, access to H:/S:/J drives, ImageNow, Perceptive Content, Malibu, Tableau, VPN, WebFocus and WordPress. Off-campus applications such as Gmail, Canvas, Zoom, Office365, Concur, Dropbox, Kronos etc will not be impacted.

Switch Software Upgrade
Network outage will take place for 10 minutes while the switch installs the software version and reboots. VPN will be down during the switch reboot and end users will see an outage of up to 10 minutes of VPN connectivity during the software upgrade.

Update Duo Integration for Microsoft Logins
For enhanced security, Duo will be updated for all users. This change will be a backend change and will not have any visible impact. Microsoft authenticator users may now be able to use Duo instead with Microsoft applications when using @charlotte.edu accounts.

Windows 10 devices will be blocked from the network
Windows 10 computers will be blocked from the network because a Windows 11 replacement option has not been identified. Users will not have network/internet access on-campus, wired and wireless and off-campus. If access is needed, users should submit a ticket and will be directed to speak with their IT Contact to figure out whether a new or repurposed computer is needed.

This upgrade will make Charlie the chatbot unable to submit TDX tickets during the upgrade. Niner Central will be unable to view banner data in Salesforce during the entire banner upgrade window. Both services will return 500 internal errors while the upgrade is taking place.

Upgrading current software for Woodward (CCI) Firewall and Perimeter Firewall to provide more stable software versions. Woodward Firewall will impact only the Woodward building and Perimeter Firewall will impact the entire campus.
