Extended Maintenance: Calendar Year 2025

Due to the complexity of some system upgrades, OneIT has partnered with the university to schedule extended maintenance windows for 2025 that may cause significant outages. These windows are strategically chosen to minimize disruption.

Network Hardware Upgrade

During this upgrade, there will be several times when campus connectivity to the Internet will be unavailable.

Wireless software Upgrade for Meraki Access Points
Planned software upgrades will impact wireless connectivity to all campus buildings. This also includes AP’s at Co-Lab, NCRC, and Center City. Downtime will be minimal.

Tuesday, 5/13/2025 – Friday, 6/20/2025; Multiple dates and times
REPROS Multi-function Printer (MFP) Migration
Multi-function printers are being migrated from Aux Services to OneIT. Printers will be migrated over several weeks. Individual departments have been notified about the dates they will be impacted. MFP outages as scheduled, customers will be unable to print until device management transition is complete. See the project website for more details. Please note the change in service details.

Cone Outdoor Access Point (AP) Replacement
Planned AP replacement will have minimal impact on wireless connectivity for this location. Downtime is not visible to customers as new AP’s come back online.

ISE Implementation: Cameron Building
Wired network upgrade will take place. During this outage window there will be multiple 15-minute network outages. After this upgrade, to have access to the network, computers will need to meet the Guidelines for Endpoint Computers.

Tuesday, 5/13/2025; 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Data Center Firewall Hardware Upgrade
Upgrade current Data Center hardware . Services located in the Data Center will experience approximately a 1 hour outage from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and short intermittent outage between 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. These services include: Archibus, Banner, access to H:/S:/J drives, ImageNow, Perceptive Content, Malibu, Tableau, VPN, WebFocus and WordPress. Off-campus applications such as Gmail, Canvas, Zoom, Office365, Concur, Dropbox, Kronos etc will not be impacted.

Switch Software Upgrade
Network outage will take place for 10 minutes while the switch installs the software version and reboots. VPN will be down during the switch reboot and end users will see an outage of up to 10 minutes of VPN connectivity during the software upgrade.

Voice Gateways Software Upgrade
Software upgrade will cause an interruption of emergency phone (Blue Light), elevator phone service, and fax machines.

Update Duo Integration for Microsoft Logins
For enhanced security, Duo will be updated for all users. This change will be a backend change and will not have any visible impact. Microsoft authenticator users may now be able to use Duo instead with Microsoft applications when using @charlotte.edu accounts.

Wednesday, 5/14/2025; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Windows 10 devices will be blocked from the network
Windows 10 computers will be blocked from the network because a Windows 11 replacement option has not been identified. Users will not have network/internet access on-campus, wired and wireless and off-campus. If access is needed, users should submit a ticket and will be directed to speak with their IT Contact to figure out whether a new or repurposed computer is needed.

Wireless Access Point (AP) Replacement King and Student Health
Minimal impact on wireless connectivity for these locations. 

Wednesday, 5/14/2025; 9:00 p.m. to Thursday, 5/15/2025; 1:00 a.m.
Perimeter Region Router Stack Link Upgrade
During this upgrade, between 9 – 10 pm, campus will experience a complete loss of connectivity for up to 20 minutes. Police and Public Safety will be unable to receive phone calls or access I resources during the outages. There will continue to be brief, intermittent loss of connectivity until the work is completed

Tableau Server Update  
Tableau Server will be unavailable during the maintenance window while the upgrade is applied.

ILLiad Upgrade
ILLiad, the Interlibrary loan service, will be offline during this time. 

Saturday, 5/17/2025; 12:00 a.m. – 4:00 a.m.
TeamDynamix Upgrade
The ticketing system used by OneIT will be upgraded causing some interface changes primarily for technicians.

Saturday 5/17/2025; 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Banner Upgrade
There will be a Banner outage during this upgrade. This outage will affect: 49erMart, Appeal System, Banner, CARES Act Portal, Degree Works, Docusign API Integration Tools, eGA, eGPS, GR Academic Petition, Legacy Banner Self Service, NinerNet Password & Account Management, Pre-Travel Authorization Tool, Self Service Banner, Student Data and Reporting System (SDARS), UG Academic Petition, and VA Certification Portal.

Saturday 5/17/2025; 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Evisions Upgrade
This upgrade will affect Finance check printing, Student bill processing and Student unofficial transcript generation planning. This upgrade will be installed with the above Banner outage to avoid additional disruptions.

eProcurement Upgrade
This upgrade will be installed with the above Banner outage to avoid additional disruptions.

Saturday, 5/17/2025; 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Mulesoft Upgrade
This upgrade will make Charlie the chatbot unable to submit TDX tickets during the upgrade. Niner Central will be unable to view banner data in Salesforce during the entire banner upgrade window. Both services will return 500 internal errors while the upgrade is taking place.

Docusign Migration to charlotte.edu
Docusign accounts are scheduled to be changed to NinerNet@charlotte.edu. There will be a Docusign outage from Friday, February 28, from 5:00 p.m. to Sunday, March 2 at 5:00 p.m. as the migration takes place. Please do not use Docusign with your UNC Charlotte credentials during this time.

Saturday, 03/01/25; 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Banner Upgrade (Finance, Student, and Financial Aid)
Upgrade will take place with direct impact to the following modules:

Meraki Software Upgrade
Upgrade the Meraki software to all buildings with Meraki APs. This software update will be a rolling upgrade as APs download/upgrade/reboot with new software. Downtime is minimal and will only affect wireless connectivity while the AP reboots. These buildings include: Co-Lab, NCRC, and Center City.

Cisco Switch Software Upgrade
Network outage in the following buildings/locations while switch installs new software version and reboots. Planned network outages impact wired, phones and wireless connectivity for these locations.

ISE Deployment: Macy, Denny, Winningham, Garinger, and Bernard
Macy, Denny, Winningham, Garinger, and Bernard will incur a complete network outage for 30 to 45 minutes. The Desktop Support team will be on-site Tuesday, March 4, to assist customers as needed.

Upgrade of my.charlotte.edu
The site at my.charlotte.edu will be updated to the latest version of Drupal. All functionality will be the same with only minor visual differences.

Perimeter/Woodward Firewalls Software Upgrade
Upgrading current software for Woodward (CCI) Firewall and Perimeter Firewall to provide more stable software versions. There will be a brief loss of connectivity as software upgrades begin estimated to be ~9 pm. Woodward Firewall will impact only the Woodward building and Perimeter Firewall will impact the entire campus.

Cisco Umbrella Testing
OneIT will be doing important network testing. University computers may have intermittent issues connecting to the internet during this time.
