VPN Entra ID Authentication Change

Network Services is upgrading the authentication method for UNC Charlotte’s VPN. Starting Tuesday, July 15, 2025, we’ll be switching from Shibboleth Single Sign-on to Microsoft’s Entra ID. Entra ID has become a recognized leader for authentication. This change will affect how you log in to the VPN, so we want to make sure you’re prepared.

What to Expect

  • The Entra ID authentication process will look different. To authenticate, you will need to use username@charlotte.edu. 
  • The functionality of the VPN client itself won’t change, and there’s no client update required on your end. Please view these FAQs to learn more.
