Physical Phone Purchase and Installation Process

Since December 2024, The Office of OneIT has provided Cisco phones to ease the transition to Zoom Phone. It’s now time to switch to hardware that natively supports Zoom. This change is being made because ample time has been provided to decide if a physical phone is needed. Adopting the Zoom soft phone remains a priority.

Starting Sunday, September 1, 2024:

  •  OneIT will no longer provide Cisco physical phones to work with Zoom phone
  • Departments will need to purchase the Yealink T58W Pro 7″ Digital phone through 49erMart. This model is compatible with Zoom Phone. Other models cannot be used. The camera option is not required.
  • If a department still has a Cisco phone that has not been set up, the department will need to buy a new Yealink phone.
  • If a Cisco phone breaks, the department will need to purchase a new Yealink phone.

A few other reminders about Zoom phone:

  • Phone numbers assigned to faculty and staff are not held for the department once the employee leaves; they are reclaimed 31 days after the position end date. See this FAQ.
  • Phone numbers are not automatically assigned to new employees. Please request a new line.
  • If an employee changes positions, they can keep their phone number if both departments agree.
