Zoom Updates: Keep Your Zoom Meetings Safe
Security Basics Everyone Should Know
Keeping your meetings secure doesn’t have to be complicated. A few simple habits make a big difference — especially when working with students or sensitive information.
- Enable the Waiting Room: Review and admit participants before the meeting begins, so you’re always in control of who’s in the room.
- Require a Passcode: Ensure only invited attendees can join by adding a passcode to every meeting.
- Control Screen Sharing: Default to “Host Only” sharing; grant participant sharing only when needed.
- Never post your meeting link publicly: Avoid sharing links on social media, open websites, or anywhere outside your intended audience. If you need to post a link on a website, it is mandatory to require registration. Limiting access to the UNC Charlotte is not enough of a safeguard; Zoom admins will be notified and you will be asked to change the set up of the Zoom meeting. [FAQ]
