UNC Charlotte’s New Student AI Fellows Program: Leading Responsible AI Adoption
UNC Charlotte’s OneIT is launching a new Student AI Fellows program to support departments in adopting Generative AI responsibly. Student AI fellows will be paired with a department to explore an AI opportunity (project).
How the Program Works
- Recruitment and Training: OneIT will recruit and train undergraduate students as AI Fellows, starting with a Summer 2026 pilot and expanding for the academic year. Training includes the Google AI Essentials Certificate and responsible Generative AI guidelines.
- Applied Projects: Fellows will be deployed to campus units to execute applied AI projects (typically under 30 hours) focused on improving workflows, replacing routine, manual work, developing prompt libraries, and boosting AI literacy.
- Trusted Practices:The program only uses approved, existing AI tools (Gemini, Copilot, NotebookLM) and strictly adheres to UNC Charlotte Generative AI guidelines, ensuring a low-risk, controlled environment.
