UNC Charlotte AI in Higher Education Survey Results Jan. 2025

Categories: AI, AI Helpful Tips, News, OneIT

Thank you to all the UNC Charlotte faculty, staff, and students who took the AI Survey in November. The following are some key takeaways that the survey revealed:

  • Respondents were divided in their perception of AI, with many seeing it as a helpful assistant but others expressing concerns about job displacement and cheating.
  • There was uncertainty about AI’s potential uses in the classroom; personalized learning and administrative tasks were the most frequently cited potential benefits.
  • The primary concern about AI was privacy and data security, followed by worries about bias and replacing human interaction.
  • While a significant percentage of respondents weren’t using any AI tools, those who did favored ChatGPT and Copilot.
  • Overall, excitement about AI in higher education was lukewarm, with staff being slightly more excited than students and faculty.

Although the feedback is mixed, it is not unexpected. Since we are at the beginning of our AI journey, we intend to periodically check-in with additional surveys to see how and if perspectives are changing. Although many use ChatGPT, we strongly advise you to use Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini since they have data protection.
