Google Account Change Reminder

Categories: News, OneIT, Update

On May 15 starting at 5 p.m., OneIT will automatically change default addresses.

  • There will be no outage
  • You can continue to use email while this back-end change is implemented,
  • The change for any individual will be immediate but we can’t tell you the exact time your account will be changed.
  • It may take up to 14 hours to update all google accounts.
  • Individual users will not receive an email notification but on Thursday May 16, you should log into Google with your new credentials (username@charlotte.edu)
  • Do not use an alias like first.name@charlotte.edu to login.

Why?

This change is part of the rebranding project and the next step in adopting @charlotte.edu as our primary email identity:

  • This change only affects Google Workspace; the primary email address in other systems (e.g. Banner, Canvas, Docusign etc) is not being changed.
  • Everyone will continue to have an uncc.edu email alias so that mail sent to the old domain will continue to be delivered.

Impact?

If you used your uncc.edu credentials to login to third-party applications using the Continue with Google button, that login method will no longer work.

You can either:

  1. Use a different vendor-provided login method with your uncc.edu credentials
  2. Temporarily revert your account back to uncc.edu. See this FAQ

If one of these options doesn’t work, please contact the third-party service for support.

Actions Needed

After the conversion logout and log back into Google Workspace & Apps both on your desktop and mobile device. If you encounter any issues logging into third-party apps, follow the instructions in this FAQ to temporarily revert your account.

Good to know

As a reminder, to get access to Adobe Creative Cloud and Dropbox provided by the University, login to your University Adobe account using these instructions. And login to Dropbox via dropbox.charlotte.edu using SSO. If you login with SSO, you will get to the right place and will not be affected by this change.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact the OneIT Service Desk. Thank you again for your help!
